Consulting

To run a successful practice, you must love medicine

But you don’t have to sacrifice your life for your business. You can have a life and business that are more aligned — one where you don’t have to sandwich the things you need between the things your practice needs.

However, where do most doctors go when they need business help? They go to traditional practice management consultants.

And while they have their place, without an aligned, supported, vision-focused practitioner at the helm, the practice will always suffer. To correct struggles in the practice, you have to make sure the physician has empowered alignment in her personal domain. That’s what our work together achieves.

Let’s work together

and love business

Our work together is different from traditional practice management.

To really succeed as an independent physician, you need support on the individual level to help you become the strongest you can be so that your practice can be the strongest it can be.

Even though medical professionals all have to complete CMEs, that doesn’t mean everything you need to know is actually covered — like how to run the business side of a practice. And, finding a consultant to help with your pediatric business usually only results in getting part of the issue with your practice addressed, such as backend systems and accounting.

That’s why I’ve made it my mission to guide others through the unknown associated with operating your own medical business.

Define your life goals and create an achievable plan to get there — without sacrificing your patients, your practice, or yourself.

Cast the vision for what you really want in your practice and life, and not what you think is possible.

Get hands-on support as you are given tools to delegate, ideate, and plan your way toward doing more of what you love (and less of what you shouldn’t).

Be encouraged to build your practice and live with empowered alignment so you can build a stronger practice without becoming collateral damage.

When we work together, we’ll…

Here’s what you can expect:

Step One:

Let’s make sure it’s a fit

First, we’ll meet for a no-obligation introductory call to make sure our work together is mutually aligned and supportive of your goals.

Step Two:

We’ll dive deep to get the lay of the land

Then after we agree to work together, we’ll meet virtually and get to the bottom of your desires for your practice and your life. Then, we’ll determine what creating an actionable plan to get to the next mile markers looks like.

Step Three:

We’ll do the work

Once we’ve got the foundation, we’ll meet virtually to create your action plan and set it in motion. We’ll deeply analyze your practice efficiencies (and areas for improvement), and journey together as we enact these changes to create an aligned practice and life.

Kind Words from Beautiful Clients

"Dr. Skinner is an amazing speaker! She captivates her audience with funny and memorable stories.
We spend so much time cluttering our lives with things that don’t make us happy, but Dr. Skinner’s presentation helped give me the confidence to make better changes to my life."

- Hiral Lavania, MD, FAAP, IBCLC

"Having Dr. Katrina as my coach was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I own a successful business but felt overwhelmed with all the responsibilities of being a CEO and lead physician in the practice. I heard Dr. Katrina speak and everything she said resonated with my situation. Over a period of six months, she walked me through the difficulties I was facing. She showed me the importance of setting clear expectations when leading my team, evaluating employee learning and progress, avoiding micromanaging, trusting the staff, and the most important lesson -- trusting myself. I also learned to delegate to do more of what I enjoy and love. I am enjoying my practice and my patients again; I have become more productive and less stressed. She is the perfect solution if you are struggling with your abilities as leader or CEO of your practice or life. She helps set up priorities and to bring yourself back to the top of the to-do list."

- Dr. Ester Ramirez Cepeda

"Katrina is a leader among leaders! I have known her for 10 years to be a passionate, evidence-based pediatrician. Over the last five years, I have watched her grow into an expert in practice management, a motivating speaker, and advocate for female physicians. Her organization, Women in Pediatrics, has aligned female physicians across the United States in a common goal of building fulfilling and balanced careers."

You may have questions, so here are the answers

I’m so busy working and seeing patients, I’m not sure I have the time to devote to this …

Time is your most valuable asset. Everyone has the same amount of time in a day, week, month, and year. It’s what you do with your time that shows what your true priorities are. Making time to pursue consulting now can save you from making a potentially devastating business decision — which uses more time later. If you are thinking about reaching out for help, there’s no better time than the present.

That’s a lot of money to spend …

Building a business means investing time, energy, and yes, money. While it’s an investment to work together, the reality is that the longer you tolerate broken systems and overworking, the more likely you will pay the real cost of burnout.

Will this even make a difference?

My consulting has helped numerous other physicians, and I’m confident I can help you and your practice, too. Just like I helped my client J with a very costly problem. Quickly after we began working together, J discovered that one of her employed docs was costing her over $40K a year, rather than making her money. Not only that, she was a bad apple who was poisoning all the other physicians and employees, creating drama and tension daily. I walked her through mindset issues around firing someone so she could move her practice forward and create a healthy work environment and bottom line. This is just a snapshot example of some of the issues we can tackle together.

It feels really overwhelming to change things up now in my practice.

Change is overwhelming. But it’s what’s on the other side of that change that’s so powerful. And the beauty of our consulting work is that you won’t be alone as you implement improvements in your practice and build alignment practices that fully support you as a physician and human being.
